Congratulations on welcoming a new child into your family! We look forward to welcoming that child into the Church!
A child up to the age of 7 can receive infant baptism without first being catechized. The will and consent of the parents supply for the child's faith. Unbaptized children older than 7 as well as teenagers and adults will have to go through a formation program to receive the sacraments.
Baptisms usually occur on Sundays at St. John of God Church at 11:30 AM and at St. Raymond Church at 2:00 PM. For baptisms in Spanish please contact the Hispanic Ministry Office.
Parents will need to be parishioners and attend a baptismal preparation course. Godparents must be Catholics in good standing who regularly practice their faith. All godparents must have a letter of eligibility from their parish. See our tab under "Sacraments" for more information on godparents.
Yes, we do allow baptisms of visitors at our parish. The Pastor will need a letter of permission from the pastor of the parish where the non-parishioners live/actively attend. Additionally, you will need to attend a Baptismal preparation class at your parish. When this is completed, have the pastor or someone on staff mail both the certificate that you have attended the preparation program as well as the letter of permission to the attention of the Pastor, The Parish of St. John Neumann, 680 Town Bank Road, North Cape May, NJ, 08204.
For more information, please call the parish office or talk with Fr. King.
For older children, teenagers, and adults seeking the sacraments, please call the Religious Education office.
