The call to the ministry of Lector is a call to develop what Pope Paul VI described as a "warm and living love and knowledge of the Scripture that will make the reader a more perfect disciple of the Lord." Through the Mass we are nourished by God's life-giving Word and His life-giving Body, therefore the Lector is challenged to study and prepare the Scripture they are to proclaim so that the listeners will recognize the beauty and meaning of the Word. The Lector is privileged to proclaim God's Living Word, this Word that will endure forever, the Word that gives enlightenment, hope and challenges to God's people. A training and certification, one day session is offered by the diocese for prospective lectors. In-house practice is also available. Each Lector is assigned to one of the readings of the Mass and is usually scheduled twice a month. To learn more about becoming a Lector please contact: Marilyn Kobik, at 609-600-2936.
