The Conference of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) at St. John Neumann Parish is a non-profit, lay organization. Our Society is an international Catholic voluntary organization designed to eliminate poverty and address social injustice in all forms. Our mission is to provide services to anyone that reaches out and is found to be in need. According to our Rule Book, “No work of charity is foreign to the Society” (Rule 1.3). A Vincentian initially makes contact to our neighbors after retrieving a telephone message for assistance. A telephone intake begins the process followed up with a home visit. Each home visit begins and ends with a prayer. We provide any service to those in need by addressing spiritual, social, mental, physiological and/or material issues. Our assistance in the short term may be to offer our neighbors clothing, food, housing, healing or assist them with bills that need to be paid. We will then help them to start planning a path to success. As Vincentians, we will continue to follow-up with our neighbors in effort that they are able to sustain independence. As Vincentians, we pray that the Holy Spirt may guide us during our visits and make us channels for the peace and joy of Christ” (Rule 1.7). Our long-term goal is to work to eliminate our neighbor’s poverty through systemic change.
